Communications Assistant

Context

UN-Habitat, the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, promotes sustainable urbanization and inclusive development by supporting governments and communities in building safe, resilient, and sustainable cities. In Tunisia, UN-Habitat works with national and local authorities to strengthen urban governance, climate resilience, territorial development, and access to quality public services, contributing to SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities) and SDG 13 (Climate Action). This assignment supports a major urban and infrastructure development initiative led by the Aghlabides Medical City Project (ECMAK) in Kairouan, a multidisciplinary medical, scientific, and innovation hub developed in partnership with UN-Habitat and other stakeholders. The selected UN Youth Volunteer will contribute to strategic communication, visibility, and stakeholder engagement efforts aimed at increasing public awareness, strengthening collaboration among partners, and promoting project achievements. The position is supported by the Embassy of Switzerland in Tunisia and the UNV programme, with a particular focus on youth inclusion and encouraging participation of young persons with disabilities.

Description of duties

• Support the implementation of communication and visibility activities in line with project objectives and UN communication standards.
• Draft and adapt communication materials, including articles, news stories, presentations, social media content, and awareness-raising products.
• Collect information, testimonials, and success stories highlighting project achievements and impact.
• Update and manage digital communication platforms, including websites and social media channels.
• Assist in content publication, dissemination, and archiving of communication resources.
• Support coordination and information sharing among project partners, beneficiaries, and stakeholders.
• Contribute to the preparation of communication materials for meetings, events, and outreach campaigns.
• Document project activities, workshops, and events through written, photographic, and audiovisual materials.
• Support media engagement and initiatives that enhance the visibility of both the project and UN-Habitat.
• Monitor communication activities and compile data on audience reach, engagement, and performance.

Profile requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism, public relations, social sciences, or a related field.
• Up to one year of relevant experience in communications, media, journalism, public relations, advocacy, or public information.
• Experience in development communication or stakeholder engagement is an asset.
• Strong writing, content development, and information management skills.
• Familiarity with digital communication platforms and social media management.
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders and manage multiple tasks.
• Fluency in Arabic, English, and French is required.
